How cool is it to live 30 minutes from the ocean? We had a day trip yesterday to White Rock, for the girls' first view of the Pacific Ocean. Okay, Boundary Bay, but still... Here they are looking for crabs left behind by the tide.

Tim and Maggie Amy and a friend's little boy

We had a picnic on the beach followed by a walk along the strip and topped the day off with a White Mountain ice cream. This is the best ice cream, and was a favourite summer haunt in Kingston, back when we attended Queen's. I was delighted to discover one in White Rock. Same rich ice cream and hand-made waffle cones. No one was asking for supper when we returned.

I'm still surrounded by disaster (My mother likes to say, "It looks like Qaddaffi's been on maneuvers."), but at least I can have some fun on the computer while I drink my morning tea.

I decided to add those cool percent bars from Anna Knits. Thanks, Anna!

I found this quiz courtesy of Amy.

Oh, and I found the digital camera, so I'll have some photos soon. You can all help me play Name That Plant. BC gardens are a different kettle of fish from Ontario gardens, and other than the six rhodendrons and two potentillas (ugh), I'm at a bit of a loss.

I've arrived. I'm still surrounded by boxes, and my living room is a wasteland (all the un-placeable furniture goes there), but I'm moved in. My kitchen is usable, I can do my laundry, the bedrooms are almost all set up, and I'm hooked up to the Internet again. Yay! If I could find my digital camera, I'd take a picture, but I'm not sure where it is, and I don't want to spend to much time online today.

Belle arrives this afternoon. She's flying cargo, poor thing. My mom put her on the plane today, and then called, saying she felt very mean doing it. I still think one day on a plane is better than seven in the car. Belle hates to drive. We'll see what she thinks later today.

The drive was fine, but so long. We pretty much all fell into bed together each night at the hotels. Who would have thought that eight hours of driving took so much energy? I'm glad it's over, but it feels like an accomplishment to drive 5,000 km.

More soon - time to go back to those boxes.
