Women in business

Oh, and didn't you love Martha tonight?

Cry and you're out of here, dear. Women in business don't cry.

More thanks

Wow! My wonderful sponsors have so far raised $375 for breast cancer research. More thanks are due to to following people:

Karen (sister)
Karen (friend)
Rob
Cheryle
Nanny & Grampy
and Tim, who donated and put the word out

I ran the full 5K tonight - the same route as Sunday, but in the dark and the rain, and surprisingly it seemed easier this time around. I ran the whole way, excluding my 1-minute walk breaks. So I now know it can be done. It will be done.

Oh, and I am not slow, I am simply less fast.

Now excuse me while I go take an Advil and ice my knee.

Thank you

Thank you to my sponsors so far:

Maggie
Gramma and Grampa B
Uli

As my mom (Gramma B) mentioned in the comments below, my Aunty Jan is fighting breast cancer right now, so I will be running with her name on my bib.

My group ran 5K this morning. There was a long hill with a steep bit at the end that I had some trouble with (walked about half of it), and I had to stop running and walk after 3 10-and-1 intervals because of my knee. I had to quit my first clinic because of pain in my knee, and I don't want to injure it again, especially with my First! Ever! Race! next week. But 5K was a long way - it took a full 4 intervals to complete.

Clinic members finally started talking about the race today - it's a week away. Most of them appear to be running in Abbotsford - in the Fraser Valley. So it's just me from my group running in Vancouver. That's ok, I'll be running with another group anyway, and like I said a few days ago, I don't feel any great affection for most of my clinic group. There are a few women whose company I enjoy on the run, and will miss while I'm racing in Vancouver, but mostly they either grate on my nerves or have made no real impression on me. Besides I tend to be slow and lag behind - I'm alone for most of the run. I hope my team is either patient or slow next week.

Primarius?

I am oddly excited to see The Apprentice with Martha Stewart.

But Primarius is a seriously dumb name, even though they kicked butt on the first task.

Aww, and she writes a little letter at the end. How very Martha.

Beancounters for Boobs

I love that picture of Amy so much that I hate to make a new entry and move it down the page. However...

Most of my family knows that I have been taking a learn to run clinic from The Running Room. Well, I'm just about done (10-and-1s last night), and ready for my goal race, the Run for the Cure. I'll be running 5K.

I decided to run with Bigfirm's team, Beancounters for Boobs. Besides a really fun name, the firm is reimbursing team members their entry fees. I feel kind of bad for not running with my clinic, but honestly, I don't feel any great bond with this group. I asked a few of them about the race, but everyone was pretty noncommittal, so I decided to go ahead and register for the Vancouver race. One of my coworkers says she'll come run with me.

I'm mainly doing it for myself - just to get fit and healthy - so I haven't set a fundraising goal. But it's an excellent cause and if you'd like to sponsor me, here's a link to my donation page. Thanks to everyone who clicks the link.

Grown up girl

amygrownup.jpg

Can you believe this was my first baby girl? She is looking so grown up - I noticed it in those pictures below of her bird rescue. Her 10th birthday is on Wednesday.

Today was a big day for Amy. Can't tell why?

Look closer. We're having a bit of trauma with the first turning of the earrings. Many tears and struggles with ear lobes that just keep twisting along with the earring posts. We've applied copious amounts of polysporin in hopes that the slippery ointment will be a help. Wish us luck.

Bird Rescue

We had a dramatic bird rescue a couple of weeks ago. Somehow this poor bird managed to get himself into a nasty predicament. How, I do not know. This is the crook in the triple shepherd's hook on which I hang my birdfeeders.

Amy put on her gloves and decided to do a bit of rescuing. She very gently lifted the poor scared bird out of the hook.

And took it over to the picnic table. After sitting for a minute or two (and thanking its lucky stars, I'm sure), it flew away.

My Amy, hero to birds.
